What’s the best piece of advice another bartender ever gave you?
Perfect practice makes perfect" is something I've been told at many points in my life and a piece of advice I've gone on to share as well. Convenience is tempting, but when it means compromising the integrity of a recipe, the cleanliness of the bar, or the systems created behind it , it can become an easy way to develop a bad habit. Do things the right way, the first time (and every time for that matter) and do it with integrity.
What kinds of ideas and approaches do you hope speakers bring to the BCB Brooklyn 2026 Education Program?
Your favorite bars are shutting? Let's discuss ways we can keep current ones open. You're tired of seeing the same techniques and flavors? Let's discuss ways to gather new inspiration and explore different flavor combinations without the help of ChatGPT. I hope the 2026 BCB Brooklyn Educators take into consideration the current concerns of the industry and explore topics less discussed.
How do you train teams to execute advanced techniques reliably?
We all learn together and we have the information to reference back to. Creating accessible SOP documents and physically being there to train each member of your team so they can see how it's done in real life is imperative for the success of your bar program. Encouraging your team to ask questions and not play the guessing game is also helpful. This all goes back to the advice I shared about doing things the right way, the first time and every time.
