Berit Jane Soli-Holt

About

After developing a career in the culinary world as a line cook, recipe tester and critic, Berit Jane Soli-Holt began bartending after stepping down from general management to write her master’s thesis in Media Philosophy on Food Studies in 2009.  Once behind the rail she fell in love with the craft of bartending, from the culinary to the choreography with cultivation of culture.  After a brief foray exploring curatorial work as a program coordinator at an art college in Denver, Berit Jane decided to recommit to bartending and keep her writing and editorial projects on an unaffiliated basis.

At about the same time Berit Jane gave a lecture in Mexico City and she fell in love with the city, deciding to accompany her abandonment of a traditional academic career with a move to a new country.  In Mexico City she first helped to open Latitud Comida in Colonia Roma as bar manager before taking on a full-time bartending position at bang bang on Alvaro Obregon.  Berit Jane held head bartender positions at Felina Bar and Maison Artemisia and was bar director of Hanky-Panky Cocktail Bar before moving to NYC in 2017.

In New York City, Berit Jane has sought to learn from opportunities working with programs that have a unique culinary focus including NoMad, Aviary and Sauvage.  She currently divides her between Jupiter Disco in Bushwick and Banzarbar in the Bowery while completing her dissertation for a Ph.D in Philosophy from The European Graduate School, Saas-Fee.  Her dissertation material focuses on craftsmanship and consciousness, knowing by means of material interaction.  Other forthcoming projects include a digitized exploration of her 2015 book, 99 Problems to be told to a plant & The Excavation of Its Future Memory.

Berit Jane is a member of Team Cocktail for the Ultimate Spirits Challenge, BAR 5-Day graduate, and spent 3 years at Tales of the Cocktail working in the Cocktail Apprentice Program.
