What does it mean to be a Bartender today? While using the latest techniques and esoteric ingredients to make an Instagram worthy cocktail has certainly become a part of it, there is so much more to the story.
There was a time when the Bartender was the raconteur, confidant, mediator, fixer... People go to bars for an experience, to escape, and that's where we come in. Between Netflix, Tinder, the bar next door, the increasing cannabis culture... We have more competition than ever for our guest's time, attention, and dollars. We can't afford to get lost in the craft, while ignoring the art of Bartending. We need to bring the focus back.
Let's take a look at our role as the host of the party, the ultimate BFF. We'll discuss some oft-forgotten basics like how to read your guests, read the room, and work it as well. It's time to get our heads up out of the ice, refine our approach, and direct our attention to how we tend to our bars, our environment, our cocktails, and most importantly - to our guests!
